I have to say that the Austin Woman's Club definitely has some of the most photogenic, amazing rooms I've ever had the pleasure of shooting in. Thankfully, Kristen and Keith felt the same way and we were able to take full advantage of the awesomeness. You'll notice a seriousness to many of the formal shots - the idea was, in keeping with the feel of the rooms, to recreate the look and feel of photographs from way back (such as a Daguerreotype) when you had to hold still for minutes to get a proper exposure. Thankfully, we didn't get into too much trouble (just a couple of scoldings) for using these rooms, which are apparently supposed to be off limits, oops!
On another note, I don't usually condone the random jumping of people for group shots, however, in this particular instance, if you can't tell, it was done for the sake of irony. Plus, the opportunity was just way too hard to pass up, as the guys thought that the wonderful Austin skyline backdrop looked like Armageddon - and I think that a bunch of dudes deliriously jumping for joy over Armageddon is pretty funny. Ok? Ok.
American Gothic was the inspiration for this photo, however, I couldn't remember what hand was holding the pitchfork, and further research has shown that I should have directed this young man to hold out his right hand.
This candid photo is totally an outtake for a number of reasons, not the least of which is the fact that you can see the softbox in the mirror - however, for some reason I really like it, so here ya go:
